May, in an Instagram nutshell.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_6tQRNVU5038_F27cTdT41i5GhOyNBjm6QR86y8O_7voUOnoQEQ8IUljT9bglSdhG3K7Bl2A4GG0LS3brYVnjapuPp5dZFMVlkKOFfGxnh1KH2Iam846zuPVPL9g7v5X3eqQL-2ewPGw/s1600/iphone1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_6tQRNVU5038_F27cTdT41i5GhOyNBjm6QR86y8O_7voUOnoQEQ8IUljT9bglSdhG3K7Bl2A4GG0LS3brYVnjapuPp5dZFMVlkKOFfGxnh1KH2Iam846zuPVPL9g7v5X3eqQL-2ewPGw/s640/iphone1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Miss Pink continues to get into mischief, always. From glitter glue and fake spiders in the sink, bugs in the house, to mom's makeup. I promise it was makeup. She's not crying blood. Just looks like it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2VtsTS0pD2fT7oPlCjqsyriKhrJpN3TOsMSVIOsqaNVPHxnznrMZ4pQae1jCPuwaUMYpvcLh99mOvf0XYcfMlsWWZtLi2A02d5SJlYMrMEK1iLhyhHbJm54ZE0h67IV3aD047N2Ps04c/s1600/iphone2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="494" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2VtsTS0pD2fT7oPlCjqsyriKhrJpN3TOsMSVIOsqaNVPHxnznrMZ4pQae1jCPuwaUMYpvcLh99mOvf0XYcfMlsWWZtLi2A02d5SJlYMrMEK1iLhyhHbJm54ZE0h67IV3aD047N2Ps04c/s640/iphone2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Early in the month, Miss Pink was able to pet a furry bunny and she almost had to stay at the school because she couldn't let it go. Our pool opened back up and she insisted on getting in the day it opened, even if it was chilly. Face painting was a must at the picnic. She loves helping - from helping me babysit, cleaning the back windows, mopping, you name it. One day she sat down at the table with all of my nail polish. When I looked at her I caught a glimpse of what she's going to look like in 10 years. She'll be a beauty. :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Mr. Orange somehow stayed away from my camera this month. One night I had put him and Miss Pink to bed. Hours later they were still laughing and giggling in their room. The next night I asked why they couldn't get to sleep. Miss Pink said it was because Mr. Orange was telling her bedtime stories that were "too funny!" He is a great storyteller. He also helped Mr. Blue with a big project that we worked on. He was a huge help. I think he really just liked being in the dirt. Mr. Orange spends a lot of time working on his silly faces. He has an endless supply of them.</div>

Last fall Miss Pink told me that she wanted to take gymnastics instead of dance, so I signed her up.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
She has willingly gone <strike>almost</strike> every week with a smile on her face.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Today the gym had a little festival where each girl did a routine on each apparatus.</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<div style="text-align: center;">
I was really worried that Miss Pink wouldn't participate. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Sometimes she sees all the people and <a href="http://onelittlegreentree.blogspot.com/2012/05/miss-pinks-dance-recitals.html">freezes</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Not this time. We walked into the gym, found out where she needed to be and she ran off with a huge smile on her face.</div>

Mr. Orange <a href="http://onelittlegreentree.blogspot.com/2012/04/lets-play-music-recital-mr-orange.html">finished his 3rd year</a> of <a href="http://letsplaymusicsite.com/">Let's Play Music</a> last spring. He started with a new piano teacher in the fall and I really wasn't satisfied with her. Mr. Orange only wants to play the piano, and in the future the violin. I begged some friends to tell me who their child was taking from and I was able to sneak Mr. Orange in with her in March. I love, love, love his new teacher. She has been fabulous. I'll admit, it has been a bit intense (for me), but he <i>loves</i> taking lessons from her and he has improved a lot in the short time he has been with her.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For the past several weeks he has been working on his recital piece, Trumpet Tune. He practiced it backwards and forwards, inside out and upside down. Well, maybe not upside down, but just about. :) He was very excited when he found out that his cousin from Wisconsin would be here for the recital.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
We arrived early and Mr. Orange practiced a bit (and we were able to take pictures). I asked him if he was ready and he sort of rolled his eyes at me and said, "Yes. Of course I am." Duh! Why would I think any different?</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Miss Pink woke up Wednesday morning and just <i>knew</i> that her tooth needed to come out.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcxFmEDxzunY8IVomVe0F4s3xJfoDNLj7ZEn9EnKSCGMLGiN_D8MCsw8acC9S3JVkQUYIxbTF14lMSe_zJ4uH3S_NgffZbX_k4fkNm0ci8Gx4_NX-IwQa9HTgp3Zu5vLhj_nvLgJDOXRY/s1600/05082013LooseToothMadison5x7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcxFmEDxzunY8IVomVe0F4s3xJfoDNLj7ZEn9EnKSCGMLGiN_D8MCsw8acC9S3JVkQUYIxbTF14lMSe_zJ4uH3S_NgffZbX_k4fkNm0ci8Gx4_NX-IwQa9HTgp3Zu5vLhj_nvLgJDOXRY/s640/05082013LooseToothMadison5x7.jpg" width="456" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
As soon as breakfast was over Mr. Orange talked her into <a href="http://onelittlegreentree.blogspot.com/2012/04/big-news.html">tying her tooth to the door</a> and he would slam it shut.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
It took awhile for Mr. Blue to get the string tied to Miss Pink's tooth.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
When it was on tight, Mr. Blue asked Miss Pink if she was ready for him to tie the string to the door.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Her response?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
"Um, no Dad."</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Needless to say, the tooth did not come out after breakfast.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Miss Pink spent most of the day in front of the mirror trying to get it to come out.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
By Thursday, it was hanging on by a thread.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I wanted to reach in her mouth and "pop" it out.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I refrained.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
We went to dinner with her Uncle and cousin and while we were sitting and talking she looked up at me and guess what?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Her tooth was in her hand and she had a window in her mouth!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
She was so excited to put her first tooth under her pillow.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The Tooth Fairy made it and gave that animal-loving girl a pretty cool elephant and butterfly.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I can't believe how grown up she is!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Since Mr. Orange has been out of school, Miss Pink thinks they need to have a sleepover every night.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I wonder how long this will last.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Looks a little squishy to me!</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6393996167053581178.post-25720177050954271112012-06-05T20:55:00.000-06:002012-07-23T20:55:59.174-06:00Venus<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Nana gave us some special glasses a few days ago with some specific instructions:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You need to watch Venus move across the sun.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Miss Pink didn't make it to the viewing party.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
She was being a bit crabby and fell asleep too early.</div>

Since it was Mr. Orange's last day of school we decided to jam-pack it with fun.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
When school let out we ran down to Thanksgiving Point to have lunch with Gramma.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then we went to Wal-Mart to buy a backyard pool.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The kids played in the pool until Mr. Blue got home from work.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We ate dinner then headed up to Salt Lake to hike Ensign Peak.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Mr. Orange with his Chinese teacher - W. Lao Shi. She was an incredible teacher. I cannot believe the patience that she had with these kids (mine in particular). It was amazing to see Mr. Orange's <a href="http://onelittlegreentree.blogspot.com/2012/03/monday-memory-first-grade.html">progress</a> this year. Once he decided to pay attention in class (insert bribes by the parents and creative teaching by the teacher) he decided that he really did like Chinese. I'm so excited to see how he does next year.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I would have taken a picture of his English teacher, but he had several. Mrs. B. had a baby right after Christmas. Then they had a long-term substitute. Mrs. B. decided not to come back and to stay home with her baby. Enter Mrs. J. - also pregnant. She had her baby 9 days early and missed the last 2, or so weeks of school. Enter long-term substitute number 2. That is 4 teachers for his English class alone! Incredible. Let's hope he has post-menopausal teachers next year. :) I'm only half kidding about that.</div>

Since I never got around to posting Mr. Orange's last day of Kindergarten picture, I figured I'd stick it in here. Mrs. Y. was a great teacher and friend. I loved, loved, loved volunteering in her classroom. Mr. Orange loved her too.</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6393996167053581178.post-84856159000095463362012-05-31T20:23:00.000-06:002012-06-20T20:24:24.565-06:00Track<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Track conditioning ended tonight.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Mr. Orange had to <a href="http://onelittlegreentree.blogspot.com/2012/04/track.html">run the mile</a> again.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It was hotter than hot.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
He did so well - 11:21!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I couldn't talk him into doing track for the summer.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Maybe he'll want to next summer after watching the Olympics. :)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm so proud of him.</div>

I have a love/hate relationship with <a href="http://pinterest.com/littlegreentree/">Pinterest</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I love all of the great ideas I find on the site, but really hate how uncreative/unorganized/unawesome it makes me feel.</div>

Tonight I loved Pinterest.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I decided earlier in the year that I would not do a marathon this year.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Half marathons are another story.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I did the <a href="http://onelittlegreentree.blogspot.com/2012/04/thanksgiving-point-half-marathon.html">Thanksgiving Point Half</a> a few weeks ago and loved it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
About a week ago I found out about the inaugural <a href="http://www.thehomm.com/">Herriman Oquirrh Mountain Marathon</a> and figured, "Ah, what the heck? I can do the half. Besides, it's supposed to be fast and basically...awesome." Prices for the race went up the Thursday before the race at midnight. I signed up at 11:55 p.m. Little did I know what I had gotten myself into!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Friday the kids and I drove to the park where the finish line would be to pick up my race packet. No one was there. Talked to a few people working at the park, they made some phone calls, and I found out I needed to go to the <a href="http://rungr8.com/">running store</a> to pick it up. At least I knew where I needed to be at 6 the next morning!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Before we (all 140 of us - 100 for the half, 40 for the marathon) loaded onto the buses, the race director gave us some basic instructions: Half marathoners and marathoners will be on the same course off and on. Pay attention to the orange spray paint on the road, blah, blah, blah....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We loaded onto the buses. I sat next to a nice girl from Alaska. The drive up Butterfield Canyon was beautiful (and totally scary - the road was as wide as the bus and super twisty. I felt like I was on one of those "most dangerous roads in the world") and I knew the run down was going to be fun.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
They dropped us off. Waited for everyone to use the bathroom then blew the horn and off we went. I should have held my horses a bit because I took off fast - waaaay too fast. I tried to slow down, but the grade was so steep it was almost impossible. Plus, I have changed my stride this year and I cannot figure out how to go downhill. (Yes, I am a running dork.) Needless to say, but mile 8 my feet were on fire. I was paying close attention to the spray paint on the road and kept following the half arrows on the right. I was really not having fun by mile 11. I wanted to be done - 2 miles ago.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I kept running (okay sometimes I was hobbling), pumped up the music a bit (not that it helped) and saw my last aid station at mile 12. Sweet, I thought, I can get to the end of this. I can even run to the end of this. I knew I had one mile left in me. I grabbed my water from the kid sitting at the aid station and followed the "halfer" in front of me to the left. I ran for a little way and started to look around. I knew where the finish line and I <i>knew</i> there was no <i>way</i> in you know where that I was ever going to circle back there in less than a mile. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So I stopped.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Right in the middle of the road, I stopped.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I turned around and almost got run over by two men. I stopped them and said, "Hey aren't you guys running the half too?" They said that they were. I said, "We are on the marathon course." They looked at me like I was kidding, but the three of us decided to turn around. Problem - we had to run UPHILL. Okay, so the three of us walked up the hill. Sure enough, at the corner where we turned left, was spray paint, with an arrow pointing straight, not left, for the half marathoners. UGH! We still had a mile to go. (I feel really bad for the girl that was in front of me. I couldn't catch her, or call out to her. I don't know how far she went before she turned around...) The guys and I hobbled in. I actually had to take my shoes off when I got to the finishing shoot, I couldn't take another step in those blasted things.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I was disappointed when I crossed the finish line, until I looked at my watch and realized that I finished the race in the same amount of time I finished the Thanksgiving Point Half. After the race I clocked my detour. 1.5 miles. Are you kidding me? Why oh why didn't I listen to that little voice when I started turning left that said, "DON'T GO LEFT! GO STRAIGHT!!!" I'll never make THAT mistake again!!! I have no idea what my time would have been. But I'm guessing that my last 2.5 miles were close to 11 or 12 minute miles. Had I not done the detour, my time would have been close to 1:45, which would have felt like a world record to me. :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So, what did I learn from this race?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
* Inaugural races are great. At what other race does the race director drive his car up next to you and offer to take your jacket to the finish line because it's getting hot outside??</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
* School buses can get you up a narrow, twisty, mountain road safely (even if you are too scared to look out the window.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
* PAY ATTENTION TO SPRAY PAINT!!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
* Practice going downhill with a new stride before trying it out on a super steep downhill race.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
* Be sure to have a massage scheduled later in the day.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
* I will <i>definitely</i> have to do this race again!</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6393996167053581178.post-32073577387937183202012-05-21T16:36:00.000-06:002012-06-10T17:02:21.552-06:00Miss Pink's Dance Recital(s)<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We just ended another fun year of<a href="http://onelittlegreentree.blogspot.com/2011/05/miss-pinks-dance-recital.html"> dance</a> for Miss Pink.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I never got around to posting pictures of their Halloween "in-class" performance.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhV3qyPvtwL0GYf8Qtfji8XiDZ80Pw0g5UQ_Fytz0soEPQi7uMHqdbQtN1-Q-AeO21GD_y0xKh-FIU-tHML2_rUHOJ5roVzMFBpHVDBrhnv8yXRXMBz7xDr68cNrEFuMIuTj_MGjqUkBD0/s1600/102911madisondancerecital.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhV3qyPvtwL0GYf8Qtfji8XiDZ80Pw0g5UQ_Fytz0soEPQi7uMHqdbQtN1-Q-AeO21GD_y0xKh-FIU-tHML2_rUHOJ5roVzMFBpHVDBrhnv8yXRXMBz7xDr68cNrEFuMIuTj_MGjqUkBD0/s640/102911madisondancerecital.jpg" width="502" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Miss Pink started to dance as soon as the music started...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7vtEdh9yUsENNDip7KnIZo66cUm6PKNJcWk_2uuj350BMv64isujPcRpZddZrjbcHfbUb3fxt811eP94dtMMGxdAjcR_xW7PB5zsXxMhgwTxjKmriGKC8zAo3GodWOizUnYQzXHDturY/s1600/102911madisondancerecital1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7vtEdh9yUsENNDip7KnIZo66cUm6PKNJcWk_2uuj350BMv64isujPcRpZddZrjbcHfbUb3fxt811eP94dtMMGxdAjcR_xW7PB5zsXxMhgwTxjKmriGKC8zAo3GodWOizUnYQzXHDturY/s640/102911madisondancerecital1.jpg" width="502" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and danced away until she saw Mr. Blue recording her.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then she stopped dancing.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiz1xPLofuo1zbixmPFbrrHqbjxx0WH_rciNlvIv63pznj48aANk2CHR93GSgXeY0n6jWtnLekPLAexh-2hdWeI09wot-tWl87JL_dH1i2ZVOc1eq-K_zu2AV9kkkOxZFYrBynBMf-x3YI/s1600/121911madisondancerecital.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiz1xPLofuo1zbixmPFbrrHqbjxx0WH_rciNlvIv63pznj48aANk2CHR93GSgXeY0n6jWtnLekPLAexh-2hdWeI09wot-tWl87JL_dH1i2ZVOc1eq-K_zu2AV9kkkOxZFYrBynBMf-x3YI/s640/121911madisondancerecital.jpg" width="502" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
She absolutely refused to dance at their little Christmas performance.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihTrRWDHHeCMUIKjpLjC0d1yX7mxdH2KSY2FPcbLQMnYwcYkQRXr3FpIWjxQmW0oizgEEHrJTOhB-fhUSR4brL_5aej9j-cV_bzUKtA2hlKopy9bHsjDmI_uKyBEcJqMJ9zZbeIPJDoYE/s1600/121911madisondancerecital_1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihTrRWDHHeCMUIKjpLjC0d1yX7mxdH2KSY2FPcbLQMnYwcYkQRXr3FpIWjxQmW0oizgEEHrJTOhB-fhUSR4brL_5aej9j-cV_bzUKtA2hlKopy9bHsjDmI_uKyBEcJqMJ9zZbeIPJDoYE/s640/121911madisondancerecital_1.jpg" width="502" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
She cried every time I took her to dance.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
One day I had had it and I told her, "Fine. If you don't want to go to dance, you will stay in your room the entire day." Guess what she said. "That's fine. I'll stay in my room."</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And she did.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I was at my wits end with her since the only time she <i>wouldn't</i> dance was<i> in</i> dance class.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Finally I gave in and sat near the class and read a book - for several weeks.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The deal was I would stay if she would dance.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then one day she was ready to dance without me there.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9JD0MbpF5ielfTH1xHLAg62RICD12IqeFUtFuOt5oZAozZOxXIgKNkqIWfZtv99sLGkE_auMZvPhS7gQX8cQg9Auw-BXwiC03htYyYp7G1eynJ8lG2eWlEe_ewcIxVCDdq9Ra4BHVmlU/s1600/052112madisondancerecital.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9JD0MbpF5ielfTH1xHLAg62RICD12IqeFUtFuOt5oZAozZOxXIgKNkqIWfZtv99sLGkE_auMZvPhS7gQX8cQg9Auw-BXwiC03htYyYp7G1eynJ8lG2eWlEe_ewcIxVCDdq9Ra4BHVmlU/s640/052112madisondancerecital.jpg" width="502" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I wasn't sure if she would dance at her recital, but she assured me that she would.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhggMuBM8nvxfNBKitS0jVXsSM_LNrZKOt8GMqXD6APlEeNH1ovRy0Ysyead7nVO9Hk2rRwqjtaf2ZbluXQSReaOX-fMm5mFJQZsB9Z6O0Zl-pMzZ17yWHPDgiie_Jb4Tlnm5jq5Py4oxc/s1600/052112madisondancerecital_7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhggMuBM8nvxfNBKitS0jVXsSM_LNrZKOt8GMqXD6APlEeNH1ovRy0Ysyead7nVO9Hk2rRwqjtaf2ZbluXQSReaOX-fMm5mFJQZsB9Z6O0Zl-pMzZ17yWHPDgiie_Jb4Tlnm5jq5Py4oxc/s640/052112madisondancerecital_7.jpg" width="502" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And dance she did.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
She danced beautifully.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
(If I wasn't so technologically impaired I would even post a video.)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I was super proud of her.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Miss Pink's "best friend in the whole wide world" was in her class this year.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Their favorite thing to play at our house is "dance party".</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I love seeing the poses they come up with.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Some of them are pretty spectacular.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiO4TnCyv4Yis9YCQRD6wUHYrJJCQAIKXYC2MU8wUEYi_ynKGg1dDecAAqWrYN7FSd5cWhH5H3SI2NiqFWbYTE4Ay5ykCVJGXRzK0T4xR6Q9mLBlBw1oapaL1nagEeMiO2MJp1OevLA7DQ/s1600/052112madisondancerecital_5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiO4TnCyv4Yis9YCQRD6wUHYrJJCQAIKXYC2MU8wUEYi_ynKGg1dDecAAqWrYN7FSd5cWhH5H3SI2NiqFWbYTE4Ay5ykCVJGXRzK0T4xR6Q9mLBlBw1oapaL1nagEeMiO2MJp1OevLA7DQ/s640/052112madisondancerecital_5.jpg" width="502" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Miss L has been a fantastic teacher.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We will miss her so much next year!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

We had this guy come to our Pack Meeting this week.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Since we only have about 5 Cub Scouts, the entire Primary came.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
He started out with some pretty mild stuff...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
small turtles, a large tortoise...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizbQrcXSULiXFEdgDxuOja-Awgy8THb-2ssPoxtP38LqbIfWTs2EHkb82s8g5Qx4uopTQKb8ICRlgjG13g05HBq25cqziOTt6Xz2KlwzNQBKOXVcg7VUEextARTXXwrp6b0WxraFxciuU/s1600/051512creepycrawlykids.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizbQrcXSULiXFEdgDxuOja-Awgy8THb-2ssPoxtP38LqbIfWTs2EHkb82s8g5Qx4uopTQKb8ICRlgjG13g05HBq25cqziOTt6Xz2KlwzNQBKOXVcg7VUEextARTXXwrp6b0WxraFxciuU/s640/051512creepycrawlykids.jpg" width="502" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then he moved onto some lizards.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I was still doing okay.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipIgURhIyuf9fP7EA8H5FBFI18vynpR-9qy1m3sVxCojGyBIgT5lT64BmQ_jlbAI68cx-ujHAlcqTQGpNeS54uaAr0RkA4gRqrLLFUEVTUBaiV_RpGojz1yHZbIQvz6wdzXBoC_S1wYPE/s1600/051512creepycrawlykids_1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipIgURhIyuf9fP7EA8H5FBFI18vynpR-9qy1m3sVxCojGyBIgT5lT64BmQ_jlbAI68cx-ujHAlcqTQGpNeS54uaAr0RkA4gRqrLLFUEVTUBaiV_RpGojz1yHZbIQvz6wdzXBoC_S1wYPE/s640/051512creepycrawlykids_1.jpg" width="502" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then he pulled out a giant tarantula.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm not kidding, it must have been 7 feet across.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Okay, not really, but it didn't matter, I ran to the other side of the field.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And stayed there.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Until the spider, wait, they are not spiders.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
They are arachnids.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Whatever, they have 8 legs, fur, and are the size of a chihuahua.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I wouldn't come back until he put it back in it's box.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
(Insert major shivers here!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3AG_OLxB1aW1uP7_oFfOfSkwhA6YNFNWPtMn7j0lSizkz4wbNsfwY_BenaJ1SEVeS8XLUathy2-DrXQfDQBGnFujYzDkzFbUNheboEThMVf9kUE1swkS6OnQ4gh_WFvsviqVJwTltFWw/s1600/051512creepycrawlykids_2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3AG_OLxB1aW1uP7_oFfOfSkwhA6YNFNWPtMn7j0lSizkz4wbNsfwY_BenaJ1SEVeS8XLUathy2-DrXQfDQBGnFujYzDkzFbUNheboEThMVf9kUE1swkS6OnQ4gh_WFvsviqVJwTltFWw/s640/051512creepycrawlykids_2.jpg" width="502" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My kids didn't like the tarantula much either, but the both liked the lizards and the snakes.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
(Mr. Orange is trying to figure out how he is going to sneak this snake into our car, I can see it in his eyes...)</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6393996167053581178.post-50180581762899512072012-05-13T21:54:00.000-06:002012-05-17T21:55:46.935-06:00Mother's Day<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
How was your Mother's Day?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Mine was fantastic.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Around 6:15 Mr. Orange came into the room and started whispering to Mr. Blue. I promptly fell back to sleep and did not stir until 7:45 when Mr. Blue and the kids came into the room singing, "Happy Mother's Day to You!" Mr. Blue was carrying a tray full of breakfast so I sat up and wiped the sleep out of my eyes while he set it on my lap. He and the kids had made me waffles and fruit. Yum. Miss Pink cuddled up beside me and stole a waffle off my plate before I could even pick up my fork. You snooze you lose I guess. :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Mr. Orange could barely wait for me to finish eating before he said, "Mom, now it's time for your scavenger hunt!" I followed the clues until they led to Miss Pink's closet. (There has been a sign on her door that said - DO NOT ENTER please.) Inside the closet were some cards and some flowers. Each of the kids picked out a bouquet of flowers for me. It was very sweet.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
(Mr. Blue told me that as soon as Mr. Orange woke him up, Mr. Orange put him to work. He chose pictures off the computer to use as the cards, helped Mr. Blue make the waffles and then Mr. Orange sliced my strawberries and oranges so that they would look "fancy". He also made up all of the scavenger hunt clues.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The kids were wonderful the entire day. They were even (somewhat) perfect angels at church.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After church they treated me to some delicious frozen burritos.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then we needed to get out of the house so we walked to the park across the street. I handed my big camera to Mr. Orange and he snapped away. (I'll post some of his pics another day.) I absolutely loved watching him take pictures. He would get so excited about every shot.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I did have him take a picture of me.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Hey, why not? It's my day -<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;"> and my family always teases me that there are never any pictures of me ANYWHERE!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
The kids spent a lot of time up in the trees and on top of the slides at the park.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiAUqSPWYUadBXCVXhGnDpHLiDhBAGQ378tUFgXGnlv8gfp_abSdPcu1G12WXYaH4CHY7kHmyJmnhvP88pURUOnplUr6w6Ph5MrRj3DaZlYQ2nXKzWNElFhsIH9Fg748xDGjM6nFjTHLI/s1600/051312mothersday_4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiAUqSPWYUadBXCVXhGnDpHLiDhBAGQ378tUFgXGnlv8gfp_abSdPcu1G12WXYaH4CHY7kHmyJmnhvP88pURUOnplUr6w6Ph5MrRj3DaZlYQ2nXKzWNElFhsIH9Fg748xDGjM6nFjTHLI/s640/051312mothersday_4.jpg" width="512" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
All too soon it was time to come home.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The kids chose what they wanted to make for me.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We had:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
(white) pasta with Mr. Blue's sauce</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
shrimp</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
broccoli</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
(I was allowed in the kitchen long enough to make a zucchini/avocado salad)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I was definitely spoiled.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I am so grateful that I am a mother to these two. They teach me so much and help me to see the "bigger picture". I love them with all of my heart. Throughout the day they would give me little hugs and kisses, hold my hand or look at me and say, "I love you". It just doesn't get any better than that.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My Mother's Day post would be incomplete if I didn't talk about two other mother's.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I love my mom. I don't know very many mother's out there who still plan parties, complete with games, for their 30+ year old kids, but my mom sure does. I love parties at her house. She has helped me through so many things and always has a listening ear. I love showing up at her office, with kids in tow, and she acts like she has all the time in the world for us. She is a wonderful mother and I love her. You can read more about her awesomeness <a href="http://onelittlegreentree.blogspot.com/2011/05/mothers-day.html">here</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I also love Mr. Blue's mom. I know people don't like to admit that they love their mother's-in-law, but I really do. My MIL has treated me like her own daughter since day one. She inspires me by the way that she sees beauty in everyone and everything. She loves the Gospel and bears her testimony frequently to her children and, more importantly, her grandchildren. It is always a treat to be around her and I love her.</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6393996167053581178.post-46462362159403660942012-05-11T21:04:00.000-06:002012-05-14T21:05:03.813-06:00He Knows Me<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Do you ever have times in your life where you feel like you just.cannot.take.one.more.thing? Well, I have been feeling that way for the past few weeks. I had been getting pretty snippy, negative, and downright grumpy. <a href="http://onelittlegreentree.blogspot.com/2012/05/radish-fest.html">Yesterday</a> afternoon was super-busy and I was looking forward to going to our Stake's Women's Conference - until Mr. Blue got stuck in traffic.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
He called to let me know that he would be late, and being the understanding wife that I am I bawled into the phone and said, "Why are you always late when I need to get to something that is important to me?" Bawl.Bawl.Bawl. <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;">(Sometimes I am so mature I astound myself.)</span> After I hung up the phone I realized how silly I was being. The only thing I was going to be late for was the dinner. I would be there in plenty of time for the speakers.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I am so grateful that I went. Each of the speakers had something to say that I felt was meant just for me. I had been praying for certain things and I felt like my prayers were answered. My spiritual cup was running over by the time I left. Earlier in the day, Miss Pink and I sat on the couch reading <a href="http://www.lds.org/friend?lang=eng">The Friend</a>. There was a quote in it by <a href="http://www.thomassmonson.org/">President Monson</a> that said, "There will be calm and wind, sunlight and shadows, joy and sorrow. But if we really try, our home can be a bit of heaven on earth." I love that. It was another answer to prayer. My home cannot be a bit of heaven on earth unless I <i>try</i>.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I am grateful that Heavenly Father knows me. He knows me personally and he loves and cares about me - enough to have answered my prayers in so many ways.</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6393996167053581178.post-4215298794635143192012-05-10T20:22:00.000-06:002012-05-14T20:31:41.051-06:00Radish Fest<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This afternoon the kids just had to pull something out of the <a href="http://onelittlegreentree.blogspot.com/2012/04/square-foot-garden-boxes-round-two.html">garden</a>. They have been eyeing the radishes for the past few days. I found a recipe for radish chips so we figured we would harvest our radishes and give the chips a try.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpBzl-7M1Kltt3t7VbkLnvAnvckfZ8ZPPB1vCVBnZ12-b0kL-U-bi1ftR3RtxmGxJezdhPT1byIqvSgt9VXIFWyOfY-9it_Ml5VfXzLPl4lUSRF0sSP9ybofnD3Y_GRNejpM9MTYqGdwY/s1600/051012gardenmadison.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpBzl-7M1Kltt3t7VbkLnvAnvckfZ8ZPPB1vCVBnZ12-b0kL-U-bi1ftR3RtxmGxJezdhPT1byIqvSgt9VXIFWyOfY-9it_Ml5VfXzLPl4lUSRF0sSP9ybofnD3Y_GRNejpM9MTYqGdwY/s640/051012gardenmadison.jpg" width="502" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The radishes looked great.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The chips....not so much.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCFkYNJ10aPN5vHiQ8thdG9b0h0jhOtjUypDMCgjgN1NsPq3jFNhDp7GopqS2Y5cFjX6nzc2rTrPmtF7KpzObuoVCGgX_FHtiSjmKPlSjrC2KoC5OtKbKkpURPu_EI4jmFhB8T3jFRZEg/s1600/051012gardenmadison_1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="502" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCFkYNJ10aPN5vHiQ8thdG9b0h0jhOtjUypDMCgjgN1NsPq3jFNhDp7GopqS2Y5cFjX6nzc2rTrPmtF7KpzObuoVCGgX_FHtiSjmKPlSjrC2KoC5OtKbKkpURPu_EI4jmFhB8T3jFRZEg/s640/051012gardenmadison_1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Our radish fest started at 3:30.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We pulled, sliced, placed the chips in the oven...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
then we realized, Mr. Orange needed to get to track...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
soon...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Set the cook time on the oven (first timer here) and went to track.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Didn't set the timer long enough and we had soggy radish chips.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Last night it was Miss Pink's turn to shine.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
She has<a href="http://onelittlegreentree.blogspot.com/2012/04/lets-play-music-recital-mr-orange.html"> also</a> been involved in Let's Play Music this past year and has just ended her first year. I can't believe how much she has learned in such a short time. Mr. Blue and I were really surprised by how well she did during her recital. (She has been pretty shy this past year!)</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: right;"><i>Photo courtesy of father-in-law</i></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Before the recital she told me her plan:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
"First I am going to hum the song, really loud. Then I will start to sing the words quietly, then I will get loud and will do the actions too."</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It was fun to watch her hum and then join in on the singing and actions.</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<div style="text-align: center;">
She played a piece on the bells with another student and she did so well.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
She was right on beat the entire time!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I think I shed a tear or two watching her.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
You know that feeling, when you know your child is really nervous to do something, but they go up and do it anyway, and do a totally awesome job doing it? Yeah, I had that feeling. Way to go Miss Pink!!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">

A few months ago I decided it was time to run another half marathon. I looked around and settled on the Thanksgiving Point Half Marathon. It seemed easy enough - run around the main property, run around the gardens, run around the golf course...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Can I just tell you that this half is not quite what I expected?? Sure it was absolutely beautiful, stunning scenery was abundant, the weather was perfect, it even smelled great! But boy was it challenging! (Which made it super fun, by the way.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is not a fast course.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Have any of you ever been to Thanksgiving Point? The golf course in particular? I'll tell you what, the last half of the half (heehee) takes place on the golf course and it is much easier in a golf cart than on foot! It kept it interesting...Up a short steep hill, down a short steep hill, run for a few paces, up a short steep hill, down a short steep hill, oh, hairpin turn...repeat...for the next 6 miles. </div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

When I signed up for the half, Mr. Orange said that he wanted to do the Kids Mile. He has been "practicing" his running at recess, and he had to run a mile at <a href="http://onelittlegreentree.blogspot.com/2012/04/track.html">track</a> a few days before. Mr. Orange wanted Mr. Blue to run with him (Thank Heavens! I wouldn't have been able to keep up with him!!!) and they had a great time. I asked Mr. Orange if he had fun doing his race and he said, "Yes! Guess what Mom, they had water and Gatorade at one of the tables so I stopped to get a drink." Awesome. Mr. Orange finished in 12:47. He took almost 50 seconds off of his time earlier this week. And that super-speedy time includes a gulp of Gatorade. :)</div>

Over the past few years we have enrolled (or tried to) Mr. Orange in various sports. He has just not been interested in them. This year, instead of taking a screaming child to soccer practice, I decided to get him involved in the things he loves: swimming, running, biking and climbing. He'll take swim lessons this summer, we love family bike rides, and he earns trips to the climbing gym. That left running. Earlier this year I signed up for a half marathon and Mr. Orange said he wanted to do the Kids Mile. He has been "practicing his running at recess" ever since.<br />
<br />
Last week a flyer came home for track conditioning and track & field. I described track and field to him and asked if he would like to do the conditioning class. A few days later (after the deadline) he said he would like to do it. I called, there was a spot open, and I signed him up. Tuesday afternoon, first day of track, we pull into the driveway after school and Mr. Orange says, "Um, Mom? I, uh, I decided that I really don't want to do track."<br />
Me: You don't want to do track?<br />
Mr. Orange: No, I don't think I do.<br />
Me: Mr. Orange, I have already signed you up. Do you think you could at least try it today? Just see what it is like?<br />
Mr. Orange: (several minutes later) Okay Mom. I'll go. I'll try it.<br />
<br />
Guess what? He loved it. Today he was totally excited to go. He had to run a timed 200 yard dash and a timed mile. He did his mile in 13:39. I was so proud of him! There were a few kids that cried during some of the (four) laps, and others that huffed and puffed their way around. Some were really fast! Mr. Orange just took off, walked when he needed to, ran when he wanted to, and did a really great job. Psst, don't tell anyone, but I think he might really like this track thing.</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6393996167053581178.post-3423328724995430802012-04-25T21:42:00.000-06:002012-04-30T21:45:28.684-06:00Let's Play Music Recital - Mr. Orange<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Mr. Orange is an official graduate of the <a href="http://letsplaymusicsite.com/">Let's Play Music</a> program.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'll admit it, I was a <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">proud</span> mom tonight.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For their third year recital, the students compose and perform their own piece of music.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Mr. Orange wrote a piece called, "Mansion of Halloween."</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGiXld24neTXiPYIrMjtXCPXyvrjsyGor-5utprtNONmRIvRFydT7ZW2mqhn8cPwBMeG6v5lT9MlmzEylOC6nTwA4bA4eHbwMJyqn85TMeBMSuEuD7ytMHBVOehqlyBHOuG15ZJHm7POU/s1600/042512recitalmason_2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGiXld24neTXiPYIrMjtXCPXyvrjsyGor-5utprtNONmRIvRFydT7ZW2mqhn8cPwBMeG6v5lT9MlmzEylOC6nTwA4bA4eHbwMJyqn85TMeBMSuEuD7ytMHBVOehqlyBHOuG15ZJHm7POU/s640/042512recitalmason_2.jpg" width="502" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
He practiced his little heart out for the recital. I asked him at one point if he was nervous and he said, "No." Of course he wasn't nervous, what was I thinking? He was super excited to get dressed up and perform. As I watched him walk up to the piano I had a flash of the past three years while we have been involved in this program and I was amazed at how far he has come. All of the before school practicing, song singing, late dinners have been worth it.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I had to smile as he started to play his song. He was so confident and sure of himself. So proud of the song that he had written by himself. Just three years ago he was trying to keep time during his recital playing a simple song on a bell set. <a href="http://onelittlegreentree.blogspot.com/2011/05/mr-oranges-recital.html">Last year</a> he was playing a song (with burnt fingers) with the other 4 kids in his class, and tonight, there he was, playing his own wonderful song.</div>

This past weekend was full of simple joys...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Friday was early out day so Miss Pink and I pumped up the tires on my bike and the bike trailer and headed to Mr. Orange's school to pick him up. The ride there wasn't too bad. Mr. Orange hopped in the back of the trailer and the ride home nearly killed me off. Not only did I have 50 extra pounds in the trailer, but the wind was blowing right at me and the trailer acted like a parachute pulling me back. The kids and I made it home. I hope that someday the kids will be together telling stories and one will start out with, "Remember when Mom used to take us to school in that bike trailer?"</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoCzC_fayvBjjcoUWJ-LiMmfxYY82YkXAahjlkM23wiu6-Q-kho_cVsMGnMa0OdYIO6-s19SKLys67kfYzex82ADpst0AxwYVyQ1jiIFs5nCgSDY_r56AK_aRs2hcMWpOf6MSNXlnA1-U/s1600/042212kidspark_1corner.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoCzC_fayvBjjcoUWJ-LiMmfxYY82YkXAahjlkM23wiu6-Q-kho_cVsMGnMa0OdYIO6-s19SKLys67kfYzex82ADpst0AxwYVyQ1jiIFs5nCgSDY_r56AK_aRs2hcMWpOf6MSNXlnA1-U/s640/042212kidspark_1corner.jpg" width="502" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Mr. Blue had a scout campout that night so the kids and I decided it had better be movie night. Mr. Orange rode his bike and I pulled Miss Pink in the trailer. We went to the local Redbox and picked out Spooky Buddies. <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;">(My opinion - Awful. Mr. Orange's opinion - Liked it. One part was scary, we fast forwarded through it. Miss Pink's opinion - I didn't like the dog with the green eyes.)</span> We took the long way home and enjoyed a nice ride through the neighborhoods and stopped to smell blossoms on the trees.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkj2ZAym5uJIQpawnQuqjJvqhKjTstLEPOV6abf-8KTAgqxv1IA37cpqkD2kL0Bc_SmjPylYi48hFuIR0xEM6U8eX0LmsvVn-ro6tBnrYm5BZcw_w-mThvk39VCEq5szzA4i1JnNoPDpw/s1600/042212kidsparkcorner.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkj2ZAym5uJIQpawnQuqjJvqhKjTstLEPOV6abf-8KTAgqxv1IA37cpqkD2kL0Bc_SmjPylYi48hFuIR0xEM6U8eX0LmsvVn-ro6tBnrYm5BZcw_w-mThvk39VCEq5szzA4i1JnNoPDpw/s640/042212kidsparkcorner.jpg" width="502" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Saturday morning we were all beat. I can't seem to sleep when Mr. Blue is not home so I stay up until 2 in the morning so that I can pass out in bed. I bribed the kids with a trip to <a href="http://www.wheelerfarm.com/">Wheeler Farm </a>if they would help me clean the house. They worked so hard and constantly asked what else they could do to help. Since they held up their end of the bargain, I held up mine.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUoEIHEMiVK8yvwfFybUDGjHxwZ3nZo58-EdeoD21SHdyxKcR9pjcG6-q4gceul3477-xBRCG0adS-b0LtUtCvqKlvm1SVrt-Sq3eLUzWNs5URzQNVPfJCMgOY9VkoKkSM7f9LmPXMWiY/s1600/042212kidspark_3corner.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUoEIHEMiVK8yvwfFybUDGjHxwZ3nZo58-EdeoD21SHdyxKcR9pjcG6-q4gceul3477-xBRCG0adS-b0LtUtCvqKlvm1SVrt-Sq3eLUzWNs5URzQNVPfJCMgOY9VkoKkSM7f9LmPXMWiY/s640/042212kidspark_3corner.jpg" width="502" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Side track for a minute... Several months ago I went to get in the car and noticed scratch marks on the drivers side of the car. I asked Mr. Blue if he knew when it had happened and he did not. Miss Pink comes in the room and says, "Oh, I was just decorating the car with rocks." (Really??!!!) We had a nice discussion about keeping rocks OFF of the car.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiT88QtB2tUQe0-DoItx7Z7mlPkn63TDezSIJp741_UPjBUVUf-i4rmtZciwzKQart6f3WLfidfcxaIw2Tiq8mk2ENyBSD48ynQG7Xdm_yuK_cYBzf4Xm1OwwC3SqKFs6xfmtnGANrhPCA/s1600/042212kidspark_10corner.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiT88QtB2tUQe0-DoItx7Z7mlPkn63TDezSIJp741_UPjBUVUf-i4rmtZciwzKQart6f3WLfidfcxaIw2Tiq8mk2ENyBSD48ynQG7Xdm_yuK_cYBzf4Xm1OwwC3SqKFs6xfmtnGANrhPCA/s640/042212kidspark_10corner.jpg" width="502" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Back to Wheeler Farm... I parked the car and got out and noticed some scratches on the car next to me. I looked closer and, in rock scratches it says, "I LOVE YOU MOM!" Yes, I laughed right out loud and said in my mind, "Praise be, I am not the only one whose kids 'decorate' the car!"</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
The kids and I had a great time at the Farm, then we got hot (since when is it 80*+ in Utah in April???), and came home. Mr. Blue and I actually went out on a date, just the two of us. We asked the kids if they wanted us to stay home and hang out with them instead and they both said, "NO! We want T & A!!!" (Mr. Orange is pretty much in looooove with the babysitters.) I'll admit it was nice to go to dinner, run errands, and hold hands.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Miss Pink was sick Sunday Morning so Mr. Blue and Mr. Orange went to church without us. Mr. Orange came home and I was helping him get his suit off when he said, while eyeballing his bookcase next to him, "Hey Mom. Guess what President Monson loved to read when he was a boy?"</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Me: Peter Pan?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Mr. Orange: Nope.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Me: <a href="http://onelittlegreentree.blogspot.com/2012/02/happy-valentines-day.html">Treasure Island</a>?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Mr. Orange: Yup. (Insert a HUGE smile here.)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
He thought it was pretty cool that we are reading that book too, although we are currently sidetracked with <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Peter-Starcatchers-Dave-Barry/dp/078684907X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1335293691&sr=8-1">Peter and the Starcatchers</a>.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Miss Pink felt better later in the afternoon so we found a park to play at. The kids played on the swings, ran up and down the giant hill, got really dirty, built a grass nest, and of course Mr. Blue <a href="http://onelittlegreentree.blogspot.com/2012/04/this-was-our-activity-for-fhe-few-weeks.html">threw them in the air</a>.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I know I have said this a kazillion times on this blog, but I love how easy it is for kids to find joy in life. It's as simple as an underdog, a toss in the air, or watching birds fly in formation overhead. It reminds me of how the scriptures teach us to become like little children. If we truly pay attention to our children, we can learn so much.</div>

I love it when Mr. Orange gets home from school and runs in the backyard, then comes running back in yelling at the top of his lungs, "Mom! Mom! You've gotta come see this!" Then he shows me how the bleeding heart has grown, or that flowers have opened, or that the clematis is getting bigger.</div>

These are my simple joys.</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6393996167053581178.post-23676209379480577262012-04-20T23:25:00.001-06:002012-04-20T23:27:08.409-06:00Big News<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Mr. Orange announced the other day that he had 7 loose teeth. Since <a href="http://onelittlegreentree.blogspot.com/2011/05/pretty-big-deal.html">last year</a> he has lost 3 teeth. One tooth was <i>very</i> loose and looked like it might be ready to come out. Tuesday night I tried pulling it, but stopped when I saw Mr. Orange's eyes glistening. It was not ready to pop out. Wednesday night Mr. Blue came home for dinner, took a look at the tooth, and said, "I can get that tooth out, no problem." He went upstairs for a few minutes and came back with a long piece of thread.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyjgstJNU9J0SOe8C27zCx5lJPtk_SBjxFqqRAkhOKEslt1W_aXgVZ1WrcWKOwmDrHacYGQI3uvaEixpvgKeq9l9qF4glOjs9FuQgJSIb-TW5Apfo34TAJDXtonhq8L85WKTBRBw1AbeA/s1600/041812masonfourthtooth.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyjgstJNU9J0SOe8C27zCx5lJPtk_SBjxFqqRAkhOKEslt1W_aXgVZ1WrcWKOwmDrHacYGQI3uvaEixpvgKeq9l9qF4glOjs9FuQgJSIb-TW5Apfo34TAJDXtonhq8L85WKTBRBw1AbeA/s640/041812masonfourthtooth.jpg" width="502" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Somehow he talked Mr. Orange into letting him tie the thread to his loose tooth.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Mr. Orange sat really still while Mr. Blue tied the other end to the door handle.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Mr. Blue told Miss Pink to shut the door when he got to 3.</div>
